Here's this month's billboard. Be sure to look for it! When you hear Wade’s, you probably think Southern Cooking. You may also think of the catchy billboards displayed all over town. It all started in 1994 with “ Bean Me Up Scotty,” the original Wade’s billboard. Since then, our outdoor comic strip has been running with other “pun” ideas such as “Darth Tater,” “Bean Crosby,” and “Sas-squash.” One of the best billboards we put up said “We’re All Out of Ideas!” This April Fool’s joke teased that our billboard campaign would end. Most of our billboard fans were happy to hear that it was just a practical joke. We did have a few fans who weren’t so happy since they had “stocked up” on several copies of the billboard magnets as collectors items. (We offer magnets for sale of our current billboards and other favorites for you to display at home or work.) Another favorite was a veggie wrestler called “The Brock.” We had to quit using it when we actually received a cease and desist in which the WWF threatened to put the Smack-Down on us. Where do we get so many great ideas? We come up with a lot of them in-house, but many of our billboard ideas have originated from friends and customers. If you have an idea that you would like to share, we’d love to “ear” from you! Please understand that we receive a lot of suggestions, and we cannot guarantee that your idea will be used. Also, we don’t offer any compensation if we decide to use your billboard suggestion. We do however, make every effort to recognize the person who sent us the idea by placing their name on the billboards all around town. Many times we get the same idea from multiple people, and in this situation we try to recognize the first person who sent us the idea. You can send us your idea through , or you can mail it to us at our corporate office. If you have an illustration to go with the idea, please send it. (We will not be able to return the artwork.) Your idea will be presented to the Billboard Review Committee, and Cool Carrot (the chairman) will be in touch with you. Make sure to include your idea, illustration or description of illustration, your name, age, e-mail address, and mailing address. Who knows? The next billboard hanging all around Spartanburg could be your idea! ** Here's our archive of billboards. Click on one to enlarge.
